ABOUT CROSS-NEUROD
Neurodegenerative Diseases have a devastating impact on patients and their families’ life, and represent an
impressive burden on society, but so far no decisive therapeutic treatments are currently available. The most urgent need is to better understand the mechanisms underlying these disorders, in order to maximize the chances of finding clinically effective therapies. The elucidation of shared mechanisms could have a major impact for the treatment and the prevention of this spectrum of NDs.
CROSS-NEUROD program addresses scientific matters concerning common cellular and molecular pathways and autonomous/non autonomous mechanisms in NDs using three-dimensional (3D) cell culture systems.
This project will carry out a comprehensive analysis of these issues related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Parkinson Disease (PD), with the final aim to identify novel meaningful therapeutic strategies.
To meet these ambitious challenges, it is necessarily required a massive and well-structured effort that can only be pursued by the joint work of international research groups throughout the EU and its Non-Associated Third Countries. The CROSS-NEUROD RISE project will exploit the complementary expertise of different partners, creating synergies between them through the targeted secondments of staff: the consortium consists of 3 European and 1 Third-Country (US) academic partners to enhance collective research excellence and create a fruitful scientific context for the training of a novel generation of researchers.
